The Hollow Man

It's bad luck to be superstitious

I'll try to post more odd vintage book covers soon.

Master of unspeakable terror

... Who's name the natives of Arkham dare not utter. (A wind whispering through the bog moans "Lovecraft".)

Cool monster art and more

Y'know the best way to find cool sites? Find a blog you like (monsterama, monster shindig etc.), then follow the links there to other sites, and follow the links there to other sites, and so on until you get to the end of the internet... But I digress. The point is (yes, there's a point) I found this artist by my foolproof method. Very nice works of art by Derek Art. http://www.derekart.com/index.html

RIP Jason Miller

It was six years ago today that the man who played Damien Karras in The Exorcist died. I have only had the pleasure of seeing three of his movies, but he left quite an impression. Having read what I could about him, he seemed to leave an impression on most people; through his movies to most and to the lucky few who actually knew him. (Watch me turn green) I wish I had known him... Not that I could make interesting conversation, but I could listen to him forever. My one true Halloween tradition, since the first time I saw it, is to watch The Exorcist. A great film and the most marvelous acting I have ever seen. He had me mesmerized the whole way through. It was probably the first time I really saw a movie as a story rather than entertainment. His role stuck with me, nudging me to buy the book, leading me to my favorite author , William Peter Blatty, and to his other book Legion. I've read each twice, leading me to want to be a writer. I will be a writer, if my books will be good is another matter altogether. It turns out that a leap for Karras was a leap for me too. So I owe much to this guy who I never met and didn't know existed until he was dead for three years... Funny how things work! Go Irish, Jason, I miss you.

Don't knock it 'till you watch it

Gore-fests are not as bad as I used to think... Return of the night of living dead part II was actually funny. Anyone notice the title of the book Ash puts on the trash can trapping his evil hand in Evil dead II? Farewell to arms! See?! Funny! These spoofs that pay homage to (make fun of, whatever) iconic horror movies use every horror cliche possible; a horror fan knows pretty well what will happen next. Clunking in the attic is not a good sign. Neither is seeing an escaped psychopath on the news when you're home alone. And it is NOT a good idea to investigate the screaming from the abandoned house that the local gypsy shuns. Return of the night of the living dead (one, that is) freaked me out. The first time it was on TV I didn't get past the melting corps. It's a good thing I didn't watch the rest at the time considering that was the tamest part. It could have been better, I think. The eyes of the first zombie (I'm not giving anything away, am I? What do you expect to happen in a movie called Return of the night of the living dead, anyway?) were to fake. They looked like they were meant for a living thing, not something that's been dead for who knows how long. And that the rest of the body was "All messed up", to borrow from the original night of terror, it makes more sense to me that the eyes should be icky too. I'm not complaining really. A bunch of people take the time to try to make a good (or at least fun) movie just for us (never mind they're getting payed a ridiculous amount for it) I don't want to bitch at them for sticking in the wrong kind of eyes. I just would have liked it to be a bit more realistic... because we all know how realistic zombies climbing out of the grave just to eat our brains is...

Spooky poems #2 (by Shelly... Buy her books!)

Afterlife

History of ghostly pasts
lingering between worlds
of not letting go of what once was
glowing orbs of light
floating through the air.

Unknown faces seen in photographs
haunted old buildings of strange events
and creepy noises of unseen footsteps
and slamming doors.

Manifestation of analyzers researching
the other side in the mysteries of the supernatural
looking for answers and hidden clues
to the unknown of tormented souls in limbo
wandering and drifting through time.

Never settled and searching for loved ones.

Cold air breathing on your skin
making you cringe
someone is watching you and standing nearby
following your every move beyond the grave.

Visitation of spirit in psychic impression
from other dimensions seeking solace
of their anguished journey
to go to the light and be free in peace.

Gypsy

Wild gypsy in frenzied dance
long black hair flowing
down her back
swaying in movement
on a full moon night.

Music playing filled the air
she could not be tamed
freedom was her name
the caravan her home
forever to roam
putting on show.

The moonlight glistened
on her olive skin
her full lips moist with want
like a caged animal
with lust in her eyes.

She had everyone under her spell
in passionate trances
their cares were swept away.

From dusk to dawn
they were singing her song
in sleepless nights
with gypsy gone.

Memories In Dust

Deep down in the cellar of your mind
unknown memories packed away
under cobwebs and dusty floor.

Creaky old stairs damaged
through rotting wood
of many years gone by.

Smiling photos, broken toys
collected over time.

Hanging light bulb
dangling from a chain
swaying back and forth
dimming your vision.

Cold and damp, shivering in skin
feeling trapped in a small space
of personal nightmare.

Fear of the unknown
of what you will find
lurking in your own shadows
hidden inside.

Four poems for the price of one!

Lucky you, you've found four spooky poems by my friend Shelly! (See previous post)

Body Channel

I have left you before,
attached by an invisible thread,
naked to the eye,
but you can still see.

To travel out of body,
and explore other places,
familiar faces,
far off lands,
interesting destinations,
imprinted in sands of time.

Forever marked,
in the history of my journey.

I must stay connected,
and not break that cord.

To soar and to fly ,
in between worlds,
to discover my own mystery.

I channel,
I see,
of all of whom,
I have been before.

Portal

Come to me through the portal,
I am waiting for you,
from beyond.

Open the door,
to the other side,
do not be afraid to enter,
it is time to say goodbye,
to your loved ones.

Joining those in your circle,
of love of passing's on.

It is beautiful here,
very peaceful,
like floating on a cloud,
without any cares,
without any woes,
it all disappears.

A joyful spirit,
chained no more.

Freedom to explore,
all dimensions.

Come into the light,
and take my hand.

Message From Beyond

Ghostly encounter of old haunts
drifting in and out from times past
floating in bright light
in showing you the way
on a full moon night.

Scaring the unsuspected
of silent screams
sights unseen without any sound
distant voices filled the air
like whispers in the wind
the homes of the departed
left to roam and unravel
mysteries of their saddened lives
of the dead.

Secrets kept and stories revealed
from other times of what is meant.
Stuck on the earth plane in limbo state.

Lovers lost in spirit communications
and invisible companion
reaching across time
seeking resolve in messages
sent of investigation.

Vortex

Cloak and dagger
cuts like a knife
splits down the middle
of two different sides.

Of false faces
hidden agendas
closed in spaces
memories of traces
on a paper trail
of haunting stories
researched and read.

Mysteries unsolved
of the long lost dead.

Suspense in the air
candles burning
voices heard
screams of long ago.

Witch's brewing their potions
casting their spells
and unheard notions
of the exposing of the evil soul.

Tormented and deranged
hidden in black fog
like a shroud of sorrows
collected long ago
never released in resolve.

The howling at the moon
wolves in their packs
hungry for victims.

Caught in limbo
between high and low.

Cleanse the air
with incense and sage
sending the demons away
of negative energy
and emotional vampires.

Wearing cloaks and dagger
cutting life like a knife.

Healing poems

A poet friend of mine has written a few books and they are on sale here http://stores.lulu.com/karmicpath. She's had a tough life (haven't we all) and shares her journey through her writing. If things aren't going so well for you, or if you're having a marvelous time, there's a poem for you. She lets you walk in her shoes; no matter what you're feeling, love, pain, joy or sorrow, you are not alone. We all take our knocks, but that doesn't mean we can't help each other out and laugh once in a while. Whether you're breaking down or fixing yourself, we're all in this together and she helps us to remember this. Pray for those who don't feel blessed. Smile at people for no reason other than to brighten their day. Lots of love to you, Shelly and anyone who needs it. Well, that's enough mush for one day... I'll be a ghoul next time. Promise. ;)
