Frankenstein (1931)

I watched it again... it was inevitable, wasn't it? I never realized, it's the perfect father's day movie. Long story short, great lines, wonderful acting and the best classic horror movie ever. Best scenes: "It's alive!", The monster trying to hold the light, Maria being very kind and showing the monster's gentle side (The death was accidental. He thought she would float like the flowers.) and Frankenstein fighting with the monster.

Best lines:

Crazy, am I?

Now I know what it feels like to be God!

You have created a monster, and it will destroy you!

Boris made the monster so innocent. This brings into question Mind and Spirit. He had a mind, of this we are certain. A criminal mind. But a body, having never lived before, does it have a Spirit? Does the Spirit live in the brain? Was he the criminal himself in a new body? He wasn't evil. He misunderstood the World and the World misunderstood him. There was no villain. No one set out to cause trouble. Henry wanted to create. Not such a good idea, but not evil. It seems that I stopped making sense a while ago, so that was my review. I hope you didn't suffer too much. See you next time!

Movie night!

There are so many to choose from... Damien: Omen II, a few Christopher Lee flicks, The trouble with Harry, The ape, and the list goes on... Whatever I pick (two, hopefully) I'll review it here. My first official review. Wow! So, what do you vote for? 1.Damien 2.Christopher Lee 3.The trouble with Harry 5.The ape. If I don't watch the one you voted for (if anyone votes at all...) I'm bound to see it sooner or later. If I wake up screaming, it will have been worth it.

Actor index featuring PLENTY of your favorite ghouls

Since I've put you through my list of demands, I'll give you a reward.

Wanted: Audio stuff

So, I'll call this a wish list. If you have these things, and would like to help me out, please comment and I'll get back to you. Jason Miller in Harvey The Exorcist audiobook
Thanks very much in advance. And if no one can help, no worries, it's the thought that counts.

Wanted: Dust jacket photos of Blatty

If you happen to have any of these books, I'm looking for scans of the back cover photos of Blatty. While I'm at it, I would love any rare photos of Jason miller (and Blatty). Yes, I've been to Captainhowdy (I just about live there) and the yahoo fan group, both of which I would be sharing with if I get anything :D.

Happy birthday, Basil Rathbone!

Today (tomorrow, June 13th) would have been Basil's 115th birthday. I've only seen him in one movie (Son of Frankenstein) but I'm quite fond of him. Here is a very nice site with huge photo galleries, he was a positively dashing gentleman (look for the ones taken at Boris' birthday party on the set of Son of Frankenstein. Priceless.), sweet anecdotes, audio clips and more.

Horror-Wood Forever

Greetings, friends--

I don't know how many of you frequent the monthly on-line magazine Horror-Wood (www.horror-wood.com), but when the September issue failed to appear like clockwork, I feared something was up.

Horror-Wood was THE best monthly web publication devoted to classic horror--while I was by no means a major player there, I was more than happy to supply the occasional review, article or answer to a reader's question. And it was through Horror-Wood that I discovered the Horror Host Underground (www.horrorhosts.com), laying to rest any fears that I was the only one left doing what I do in my personal ventures.

Joe Meadows ("Renfield" to readers) was an enthusiastic, friendly and patient soul who never failed to return an e-mail, never had anything to complain about in public... and never hinted that anything was wrong with his health (in my experience).

It is my unfortunate task tonight to report that Joe Meadows passed away approximately three days ago (Friday the 8th, if I'm not mistaken).

Rest in peace, friend--and may there always be those willing to continue (NEVER finish) what you started.

Shane M. Dallmann "Remo D." to friends

I was (and still am) sad to hear this. It was a wonderful site. I noticed a few months ago that Horror-Wood was unavailable. As far as I knew, it was gone forever. Yesterday, though, while searching for images (monster related, no doubt) I clicked a pic from HW... just hoping "maybe today it will be here". Lo and behold, our dear Horror-Wood is up and running again. Joe "Renfield" Meadows must be smiling. Lots of thanks to whomever is keeping it going, it is truly appreciated. http://www.horror-wood.com/archives.htm

Special event (for me anyway...)

Hooray for me! I Googled my blog and it showed up on not one but TWO sites! OK, so one was the blog itself... but the other was Someone Else's blog. The blog owner's big prize is... a link to their site on mine! (Well, that's better than nothing.) http://davesworld56.blogspot.com/

Let's hear it for Boris Karloff!

My pal, Justin, was kind enough to go photo hunting for me. Here are the GREAT results. http://mortalkombatinformer.com/exmk/images/Stock/Boris%20Karloff/HQ/ Update: This link is no longer active. I saved all the pics from there and will post them here shortly.

Thanks,
Justin!

Spooky paintings for Halloweenies

I wish I could paint like this. You can almost smell the wood stoves and hear the crunch of leaves beneath your feet. Subtle and beautiful these painting capture the very essence of Halloween and that spooky feeling you get while walking past the abandoned house with weeds strangling ghosts of flowers. Thanks to Lewis Barrett Lehrman for making every day Halloween. http://www.hauntedstudio.com/index.htm

Grave humor

Those of us with a passion for the odd owe alot to Robert Ripley. He brought the mildly morbid to the mainstream. I've lived off Ripley for most of my life... and I believe him! I'll have some of the best from this book up here sooner than you think.
